You don't get the code given when you buy the car. Just take it to your dealer and ask them to retrieve it.

Hi Cariad, on collection day my dealer wrote the radio code in the handbook for me.....it's about the only thing he did right.

Presumably, presenting your car at the the Dealership is the best way to go.

When I had my car I asked for the radio code and they said its in the service database they don't write it on a note and put it in the handbook as they used to because people leave that in the handbook but thieves can read.

I said its my new car with radio I want the code just in case the battery needs disconnecting and I need to recode it. They said you don't need the radio code for battery disconnection or faulty battery. When a replacement battery is fitted the ecu knows the radio code of the original radio and if it still matches then the radio carries on working. You only need the radio code if you fit that radio in another vehicle.

    They gave me the code.

I would say go back to the dealer you bought the car of and they should only need to ask the reg number to find all details about that car, you can only ask.

When the radio failed on my mk5 because one of my delightful children posted money throught the cd slot i managed to get a second hand one as vw wanted 500 notes for a new one.

When i rang the dealer the info they wanted off me was the chassis number of the car the radio had come from and the chassis number of my car.

They then gave me the code just be careful tho' the dealership not a million miles away from old trafford football ground wanted 30quid to give me this information. However JCT600 wakefield did it for free!!
