After a bit of advice from those tat may have experienced it.

Got an A4 B5 Tdi with climate control.

Over the last few months my climate control has gone a bit wonky. The first thing that i couldn't figure out was occasionally the A/C would come on, and i'd press the button, and it wouldn't switch off.

Then the temp buttons started following suit...i'd turn it up at the beginning of a cold winter commute, and as i got comfortable, i couldn't turn the temp down. The following day all the buttons would work and no problems, a few days later same problems...wierd? The on/off issue of the problem has negated the actual buttons being faulty as they do work, just generally not when i want them too!

The result of this is now the temp is stuck on 'Hi' and i can't turn it down. Has been like this for about two weeks. Not a problem immediately, but as it get milder its going to be a problem.

All the directional air buttons work perfectly, as the does the 'de-mist' function.

I have been looking on FleaBay for replacement units, but am not convinced this is the problem. Could it be a busted sensor or something?

Advice and similar experiences would be most welcome.

    Thanks

Take it off the car, take it apart and then clean all the inside sensors and the backs of the buttons, this might help it work correctly. They are the same sort of sensors that are in tv remotes! And need a good clean every now and again.

    Hope it does!

    Hiya,

Sounds like the thing to do - mine has obvioulsy had a bottle of pop go all down it at some point in its life (cleaned the evidence away elsewhere!), but the buttons stick when it's cold and I have the same problem.

Didn't know it could be taken apart, so thanks hibbsy.

No problems mate, just glad to help!

Well its one of the first things i did when i got the car, i am a bit of a perfectionist in terms of cleaning buttons and making sure everything works. Also i changed the colour of the LED's from that horrible orangey crap to a nice blue! I bought tiny tiny LED's though (the wrong ones) but used them anyway. So if that helps, you can change the colour too!
