    Hi, 1st post.

Installed a Westy "automatic detachable towbar" in my '09 Mark V GTI, very happy with it except the ball height is a little high for my trailer. The easy fix would be to fit another towball with a lower ball height.

    Here's mine:

As you can see the trailer sits nose high, I need the ball 2-3" lower to level it:

Will this hitch for a Range Rover work?

And before anyone says ewwww, talk to my FAST, but careful, he bites!

Mine (on an A6 Avant) is also higher than I'd like it to be, and too close to the bumper as well. And I'm not impressed that there is no attachment on the towing bracket for a breakaway cable. As far as I know, they don't make interchangeable tow balls of different heights. They could do with being better designed in the first place.....

Thanks for the reply. I can confirm that this towball is NOT interchangeable.

Bought one off Flee-Bay, had a buddy send it accross the pond and it doesn't fit.

I think what I'll do is make a new receiver tube and weld it in place, it would be the perfect height for my trailer.

Just seen this thread. Whatever you do, DO NOT alter the tow bar as fitted to the car. It is type approved and if you alter it and it breaks, causing an accident, you will be liable.
Why not modify the trailer tow hitch mounting so the trailer chassis sits level? Likely you will just need a form of spacer and longer bolts.

As said, DO NOT alter the towbar on the car. It is correctly fitted and designed and the ball is the correct height off the road.

Add a space plate between the trailer hitch and the chassis.

Without trying to be unkind but if you put proper trailer tyres on your modded trailer rims the trailer would already be at the correct height/level!
