Bought an a6 and the previous owner had removed the nav plus unit and installed an after market stereo.

He provided the original and the code for it.

Plugged it all back in and entered the code, its now saying SAFE Unit Locked! after only 1 attempt at entering the code.

Any idea whats wrong with it? plugged in wrong? something else? i thought there were 3 attempts at the code?

There are 3 attempts usually. What if 2 had been made in the past?

Sounds like you have the wrong code maybe?

    I have the same problem.

Some reading on the internet suggests after an hour of the ignition being on, the unit should allow you to enter a code again.

I've not been driving an hour yet, so i don't know whether its right or not.

I spoke to Audi who just said they need to re-code it, but at £60, i'll wait and see if the unit unlocks itself naturally.

Also, Audi did mention codes are unique to the car, so if he sold his old Sat Nav, and just brought another, the code will be useless, and you'll definitely have to visit Audi.

I've been driving around for well over an hour since my stereo locked itself, and no joy.

Does it have to be an hour in one hit? Does the unit have to be on the entire time?

The unit needs to be on and the ignition has to be on at least for 1 solid hour.
