My car just hadime. its 3rd Longlife service and one thing that confuses me is the service interval is always exactly the same ie 18,600 miles each time.

This last time I immediately did 3 longish motorway runs of 170, 90 and 156 miles in 4 days, all done at sensible motorway cruising speeds, and I thought the cars ECU was supposed to flex the service interval dependant on the driving style etc, am I reading this wrong ?

are you saying the car pinged up the service due or the DIS read out after a service and reset shows 18.6K

I am on LongLife and the ECU will vary the service due depending on your driving style. After a service it will take approx 500 miles to show a reading different to
    ----miles
    ----days

After my last service it was reading 13,000 miles as the car was being used for short journeys whilst I was on paternity leave.

Now I am back at work and doing 400 miles a week it has crept back up to 15,000 miles- I believe the maximum is 20,000 miles betweeen services, the reading sounds about right for the journeys you have done.

No not at all. My car was showing blanks after the service, and after 350 miles or so it came up with 18300 to go to next service.

My query is that it has always done this exact same thing, and no matter whether I do a load of shor journeys or some serious motorway cruises, the decrement of thge mileage counter is always the same. It never flexes depending on driving style as far as I can see.

Maybe the software is different for petrol engines.

Nothing is wrong. It's just the max mileage possible between services. Mine is the same. Do a lot of short journeys and the miles to service will drop down.

I was also on LongLife on my 1.9TDI- I was doing regular long journeys Norwich-Heathrow, Heathrow-Gatwick and I was going about 18,000 miles between services, the same with the 2.0Tfsi.

Note- my current car is fast approaching 100,000 miles I'm not sure if the mileage between services is reduced when past a certain mileage.
