I have a 1st gen iPod Touch which I keep in the car all the time, connected to my 310 audio via the dedicated ipod lead. For 9 months it has been fine. Just recently it seems to discharge the iPod battery within a few days, even though I haven't used the iPod. The iPod shows that it is charging when the ignition is on. I use the car for short journeys each day. I have charged the iPod via the mains and left it out of the car - it doesn't discharge at all. Can anyone shed light on this please?

I read this thread last week and it somehow stuck in my mind.

I've only had my 8 month old Golf just over a week and have been using my iPod quite frequently. I remember using it on the way home from work on Friday and when I went to get it on Saturday it had totally discharged. I found this bizarre, given that I used it on the Friday in the car (and presumably it had charged).

I've also noticed that if you play the iPod in the car, the battery indicator seems to jump up quite high in a short space of time.

I charged my iPod fully overnight last night and I don't intend to use it in the car again until it's fully discharged - just so I can see how many days it lasts.

Yes I tried that and it discharged in a day even without using it. I have fully charged it this week and not put it in the car and after 3 days it's still showing full charge. It looks like the link to the car is discharging the battery even when it's turned off. I'll be interested to know what happens to yours

If you're keeping it in the car all the time why not transfer all the albums/tracks over to a USB stick and leave that in the car? It's cheap to buy and means you don't have to leave what could be an expensive MP3 player in the car in which temperature can be very high and very low in winter?

Yeah, I've thought about that. You can pick up a 16GB USB for around £14/£15.

I'm not sure if it gives you the same flexibility though with regards to searching by artist/song/album/playlist, etc.

I've got an old USB (256Mb!) in the house - I'll stick a couple of albums on it and see what it's like...

BTW - iPod still showing full charge after a day (of no use). I've been using it this morning and it's still showing full charge.

Looks like there's some kind of problem with it when plugged into the Golf - as a previous poster said - probably still discharging when engine is switched off.

My requirements are probably simpler as I only have classical CDs on mine (about a 100+ hours) and so I have classical works contained within folders labelled Tchakovsky or Mozart, for example and not artiists or tunes.
