    just bought 2001 1.6 se engine light staying on. checked history hasnt been serviced for 25000 , 18 months ago seems to be diving fine but light got me worried, it has 93000 miles going in on wednesday for full service ,will this sort it, i think it might be the engine gas emissions.

    HI, not sure that the engine should have problems at that kind of millage unless its been hammered but you should be able to tell that when driving.
    I had a similar problem on my Golf v6 which turned out to be a lambda sensor £150 to VW (no after market available) and the light went out, dont you just love emition laws.

    cheers mate going in on monday for diagnostics the EPC light is also staying on but its driving great.

    My wife has a 2001 2.0 SE Bora with 42k miles which did the same thing intermittently, it was the lambda sensor which had to be replaced. The one thing i did notice when the light was on, was that the average mpg reading would drop by 5-10 miles. Car running fine otherwise.

    scrapped the diagnostic check ,going in on thursday to have the lambda sensor changed also the epc light has now went out.
