    Hi

I bought a replacement leather gaiter for my B5.5 passat around 6 months ago. Numerous times i've thought "this can't be that hard"... pulled up the plastic surround and found I can't get the existing gaiter over the knob without removing the gear knob.

Guess what... I can never figure out how to remove the gear knob!

    Any suggestions?

    Cheers,

Unless im missing a thread, I couldn't find any particular detailed/usefull instructions, just that it "clips off"... which is about as detailed as "remove the gear knob!"

Gently squeeze the edges of the surround clipped into the centre console and pull it up over the knob (like taking a jumper off )

Look at the underside of the knob and you'll see a clip holding the gaiter to the knob. Unfortunately you'll have cut the clip off.

People use a small cable tie or something similar to reattach the gaiter.

Considering selling my VCDS KEY-USB interface. If you're interested please contact me via PM or email.

The clip looks very tough. Mine isn't plastic.. its metal. Time to get the sharp pliers out I think.

Any luck with re-attaching the gear knob?
I find it hard to believe that a cable tie will do it. The current fixing seems very solid.
Got a new gaiter on order.
