Can anyone offer advice on a quick fix to re align my front doors.Since i bought the car the panel gap at the bottom of the door where it meets the front wing is smaller than the top causing it to rub creating a lovely ever increasing area of rust.Is it a case of buying a new set of hinges or can the door be manipulated back into position by unloostening the hinge brackets and re tightening.
    Cheers Danny

If my memory serves me well you will find an adjuster grub screw on the upper hinge , possibly covered by a small black rubber/plastic hood

Can't see anything like that just the bolts that hold the doors to the hinges and body.Might have to undo them and try to lever it up.Everythings a pretty tight squeeze in there so i'm preparing for scraped knuckles

If i were you just do the bottom one as that is the one that wears most. And it is an neasy job to get the bottom scuttle of the inside. Should bring it back into alignment. Worth putting some grease or seam sealer behind the hinge before you tighten it up to try and stop any leakage in future.

Hi there. This is my first post, so hope it proves useful to somebody.

I acquired a B6 A4 1.8t S-Line recently and noticed that the drivers door had dropped slightlly causing the bottom front of the door to rub on the back edge of the F/O/S wing and also hit the striker in the wrong place at the rear of the door.

Looking around the web, it would appear that this is a not uncommon problem that people have difficulty in finding a solution to. I have managed to solve my issue quite simply, so thought I would share it.

The lower door hinge is secured to the A pillar by two bolts - one from the outside and one from the inside. The inside one is accessed fairly easily by simply unclipping the interior trim and using a 13mm socket on a small extension. In my case, I found this bolt to be none too tight and this may be the reason for the hinge moving over time.

The exterior bolt though, appears at first to be pretty much inaccessible due to its' head being tight up to the wing. However, closer examination reveals that it is not the wing but a plastic spray shield preventing access with a spanner. I then discovered that this bolt can be easily accessed from inside the wheel arch by undoing the two small torx screws in the rear of the wheelarch liner, pulling the liner to one side and then gaining access to a further torx screw in the aforementioned spray shield. This can then be pulled to one side giving good access to the bolt. Turning the wheel onto full right lock first gives good access.

Both of the hinge bolts can then be loosened off slightly enabling accurate positioning of the hinge on the A pillar. Tighten up the two bolts, replace all liners, trim etc. Voila! Took me about 15 mins and I now a have a beautifully aligned door.

Hope this is of some use.

    Steve
