I dont think I'm complaining but:
All 4 tyres seem to wear evenly. The last set were Michelin Pilot 235/45/17 and when I changed them they were all within 1mm of each other yet none had been swapped around.
I changed the wheels for 16" and used Continental 205/60/16. That was 15k ago,
I took it for MOT the other day and one of the rears had a cut that caused a test fail.
I had a new one fitted and the fitter checked the other tyres and they were all about 4mm.
He'd never come across this before.
I've ran FWD cars for the last 20 years and have always had to change the fronts long before the rears.
Have I got a problem or is this normal for Audi's

    Cheers Dave

Your absolutely correct with regard to the right foot but I have always been so. Thats why I dont understand why the Audi should be different to the Fords, Peugeot and Fiat I previously owned.
I cant make my mind up if the fronts are wearing slowly or the rears fast.

    Yours confused

No you are gentle into islands and bends but then apply gentle throttle on exit. This gives a smooth ride but transfers weight to the rear and slightly increases the rear wear, thus balancing up the wear characteristics. I measured mine after you first post and I have less that a mm front to rear in diferrence in12K miles. Regards Peter

I'm glad I'm not alone with the tyre wear characteristics.

My driving techniques are the result of early training. Try driving from Sheffield to Scarborough without using any brakes!

Just less than a mm, may be 0.9 mm. Depth gauges don't have decimal places.

OP, Gentle braking is fine but beware of excessive disc corrosion particularly on the inside of the front discs. The standard for 16" rims, assuming they are 7Js would have 55 profile tyres. What engine do you have and what mpg do you get on one of your eco runs. Regards Peter

I have a Michelin Digital Tyre Pressure Gauge which gives 2 decimal places ... for what thats worth.

    205/60/16-69W

2.5 TDI but I dont do eco runs ... its just ingrained in me from driver training.
I get between 45-50 on a run though.

"I have a Michelin Digital Tyre Pressure Gauge " does it measure depth as well then and I think you will find it is one decimal place.
A 60 profile tyre may give you a slight error on measure speed and distance, very small though. Regards Peter

Thats what happens to me when I try to do more than one thing at a time .. I meant Sealey - Digital Tyre Tread Depth Gauge

I thought about that and I've found its a 2.5% error when checked using the SatNav so I correct my figures accordingly ... Are'nt I clever !
