Hello all, I'm looking at buying a 2004-05 A8 W12, sometime in the next few months.

I'm struggling to find any tuning info on this car/engine.

I'm hoping to get the power somewhere close to 600bhp, to start with.

Does anyone here know, what mods can be done to the engine and box, to get it up towards this sort of power?

1 thing I have been told, is to swap the Bentley GT inlet and injectors onto the Audi engine, as these are meant to flow better, does anyone know if this correct?

    Cheers Frank.

Personally I thing you will struggle to get 600PS without going twin turbo using the Conti engine but the engineering would be a nightmare. It is possible if you are prepared to pump in the considerable funds required and there are plenty of smashed up Conti’s around.

    Hello Frank,

I just sold my A8 D3 4.2 and am planning to get the A8 6.0 W12 sometime before summer for extra power although my ex 4.2 was an ultimate road racer. Can you tell me more if you get any relevant information regarding extra BHP on the W12. I will be interested in doing that as well to my future W12, the Transporter's Ride .

I wouldn't bother faffing round with inlet and injectors, they are tuned to match the Conti's turbos so you'd have to recalibrate them, but still wouldn't get anywhere near the power you're after.

To get to 600bhp the most simple and reliable route is to drop in a complete Bentley Conti engine and turbos. The top spec ones come with a very reliable 620bhp and its already set-up with everything you need.

If all you want is occasional power (away from lights etc.), then NOS is probably your best bet, much more affordable and doesn't add to running costs when you don't need the power.

But however you get the power you want, you'll have a comfy luxurious car that's brilliant in a straight line, but very uninspiring round corners, unless you spend a bucketful of cash on the suspension.

I've gone the other way, keeping the A8 for when I want luxury, and buying an Aston Martin with sports suspension and lightweight bucket seats for when I want performance.

Oh yes, the motor will fit in but no consideration for the intake, exhaust, cooling or most troublesome of all, electronics then…

To get to 600bhp is going to take forced injection somehow, I don't underestimate the difficulty of making physical space and getting the electronics to work, but i wouldn't have thought it would be any easier to make space for intake, exhaust and cooling when adding turbos to the engine in situ.

NOS is probably the simplest way to go, it means living with only(!) 444bhp in normal use, stepping up the power when needed, but that doesn't seem like much of a hardship.

    Is this a real conversation.....

"I need to gain more power from a 6.0 W12"....

Hat's off to you mate....if a 6.0 W12 ain't enough as standard then your quest for power could go anywhere !!!

That's the problem, when the first car you built was a 600bhp '65 Ford Mustang, that I bought when I was 15!!
It's all down hill from there!!
