Best iPhone music streaming package ??

Hi everyone

After finally getting my a6 to recognise that I wasn't in France I wanted to ask for guidance on the best/cheapest solution to stream music from an iPhone.

I just bought a 2007 a6 with a MMI 2g highline system. In the glove box I have a 6 disc cd changer and in the boot is my sound system and sat nav.

I have the iPhone connected over bluetooth for the phone but I am keen on getting my Muisc playing through the system.

I'm my last car (vw gti golf) I had a dension kit and cradle to charge and play music through the head unit. I'm after something similar or if there is a way to stream music via bluetooth. Though I heard that to use bluetooth u need the music system in the glove box (think its called the ami??)

The fm transmitter is not an option as it's poor quality. I'm not fussed if it charges or not but I def want the phone visible as I don't want to have to dock it into the glove box everytime I get in the car.

I really hope you are able to share your experiences and possibly help me choose the best solution.

As you said you can go down the Dension route if you want flexibility. Also, you can go down the AMI route as you said but it's expensive Unfortunately the MMI system doesn't allow anytype of Bluetooth music streaming. I think the new A7 and A6 has this capability though.

I don't know what Dension system you had in your Golf, but the system in the A6 lives inside the glovebox and has USB ports for you to contact various devices.

I heard that if you get the ami wired up you can actually add a Bluetooth receiver to it and steam music that way.

Some say that if you do that then you can either stream music or connect the phone but not both. Is that correct??

I would prefer a bluetooth or wireless kit as the dension means I'm going to have to rip up the dash to mount a cradle and I'm reluctant to do that as only picked up car a week ago lol!

To fit the Dension in the glovebox you only need to remove the inside of the glovebox and connect it to the CD changer and it lives in the space beside the changer. With this you can have the phone connected to the Bluetooth for calls and have it plugged into the USB for music on the Dension.

Is your Bluetooth system the cradle inside the armrest or the one without the cradle as I remember seeing SIM on the pictures you provided for your other thread?

Yea I have seen a few on eBay. It's basically a USB lead that connects to the ami unit and u plug in a Bluetooth receiver to end. It gives u full playback control through the mmi.

I am connecting bluetooth to the iPhone direct via the mmi. I do have some type of port connector in the arm rest but not sure what this is.

Do you have a dension connected? Does it need to get an external power supply or can it come from the cd player?

Never seen that before. I don't have one fitted at the moment but I'm thinking of getting one fitted as I like my music from what I've read on the Internet regarding the fitting of the unit that it gets it's power from the cd-changer.

Next time I'm on my computer I'll do some digging to find a thread where the unit has been fitted.

(I'm actually in Inverness with the wife, I was trying to have a forum free weekend but it never happened lol. I'm addicted. And with being on an iPhone my battery is gonna die so I'll reply in the morning )
