I have a 1999 T 1.9 TDI SE. I bought the car with a Ministry of Sound stereo which doesn't pick up radio....it's missing an adapter I think.

I went to a scrappie and took a Phillips Beta V from a Golf. The first time I plugged it in nothing happened, but as the fuse was sealed I couldn't see if this was the problem so decided to replace it. After replacing the fuse I still have no power.

As far as I can see the plugs are as they were as the MoS stereo came with an adapter for them. Having checked a wiring diagram the power wire is correct.

What could be the problem? Do I need an older Beta model, or has the radio just had it? As it came from a smashed up Golf there's no way of knowing if it worked before.

    Thanks in advance.

So if your previous headunit worked, then I guess there is power. Are you sure the Beta from the scrappie is in working order? You checked the fuse on the unit, but perhaps check fuse 42 (I think) to see if it is still ok (or is the old radio still working when plugged back in?)

    Hi herby,

I have plugged the old unit back in and it works fine. I'm guessing it may be that the beta is just dead - should have checked it before I went to VW for the code! D'oh!

It'd be a good starting point to know where you're at regarding the beta (working or not). Know anyone with a Golf or Passat to try the radio in?

I don't unfortunately, well not anyone who is likely to let me remove their unit!
