Check the chip has not fallen out inside the key and is rolling around. Open the key carefully, if the chip goes flying you are in the poo!

Yes there is a chip, all cars built from 1995 have one. It is pressed into a little slot inside the y, or is that what you mean by the transponder?

i have the same problem, but it only occurs once a month or so. just turn the ignition just before the car starts an check for a little car with a key in it. This will mean that the immobiliser is still active if it flashes, and thus, the car will start for a few seconds an die off again. (very annoying when there are people around and they think your car wont start) so pull it out an try again. eventually it will give in an stop flashing. I find it is worse when you have had the engine off with the radio on for a while.

But as said above you need to check the transponder chip. Also around the ignition there is an antenna you might want to check that too and replace/modify it

    Hope that helps
