Hmmm, well my A6 is due shortly for its MOT 28.03.11 so I called the dealership....YES....they're still doing the free MOT so thats all good!!

The advisory I got last time for the n/s/f and o/s/f anti roll bar bushes probably means they'll be due but been told they may be able to push that through ( fingers crossed )

The warranty's up around the same time so I'm getting them to do a full all round check of anything that needs done at the same time, prior to it running out....makes sense

The drivers window is playing up......dunno if anyone else has experienced this? It seems to go down ok but has problems going back up...its very intermittent!!
That should be covered under warranty and I'm hoping it sails thru, but we'll see.....I'll post it up anyways

Oh yeah - Insurance is due 25th May too
Good news is I've checked it out and looks to be £263.89 fully comp with 10yrs NCB protected so not too bad

Once thats done it'll be the paintwork that needs attention on the drivers door sill area as previously posted then should be good for a while I hope

MOTs in Northern Ireland are done by MOT Centres set up by DVLA so I cant take advantage of the free MOT And for some reason we only have to MOT our cars when they turn 4 years old (not the usual 3 everywhere else)

I had a component of the suspension replaced under warranty a couple of weeks ago, you may remember from my thread? C links or something? I think the health check is offered anyway coming to the expiry date, well I was offered it anyway

I think i've heard about the window thing before Jim but can't recall where I seen it at, sorry. Something weird has been going on with my wipers but Audi found no fault codes and people thought I was going mad!

10 years NCB?! Youve been careful eh? I think my renewal isnt until April sometime but I paid ~£350 for fully-comp 6yrs protected NCB. Prices are dearer in Northern Ireland as car hijackings are more common here

Did you ever get any further with Audi about that corrosion Jim?

Oh and i'll reply to your PM within the next hour!

£264 for your insurance Jim? That's a great deal...who you with? I've just renewed mine with Aviva and the best I could get for 12 claim free years in Glasgow was £350. It would have been £316 but thanks to the wife getting caught doing 70 over the Kingston Bridge (a 50 limit) Aviva bumped it up. I thought I was doing well till I read your post.

    Hi Jim,

With regards to the window, I have read a couple of solutions, albeit over in the C5 section. Some report that spraying the window rubbers with silicone spray fixes things, and I have also seen posts reporting that the plastic clips holding the glass can break (although remember this is fir C5 models so may not be appropriate in your case).

Good luck! Let us know how you go on.

    Cheers!

    MF.

Sorry mate, just got round to your reply.....a busy busy weekend and a very sore head ALL WEEKEND!!
That quote was from Privelege.......I got the quote after using GoCompare as I do every year. I used to get the top 3 best quotes and then play them off against one another, could sometimes be good for another £40 - £50 off.
Now though, as the price is so low I can't really save that much.
Currently I'm insured with More Than
    Hope it helps some

Thanks MF....I saw that too I think when I was researching it. I'm just trying to avoid using the window for the time being until I get it in to the dealer and fixed. Its not a major issue as I'm not using the car quite so much as the moment

    All the best

A bit of a swerve off-thread- but-- regarding insurance -- Did none of you give 'site sponsor' Chris Knott insurance a chance ?.
Just re-insured my A6 with them for 2nd time . (and also my Van).

Have to be honest pete....I didn't try them.
Kinda if its not broke why fix it scenario I guess.

As for the pre end of warranty check? Add weak battery to the list, AGAIN
I'm still finding it suffering from poor / lazy start i nthe am or first thing.

Turn the key, sometimes wait for maybe a second or so ( whilst absolutely nothing happens ) then a very slowwwww and lazy start before she fires up

That sounds similar to the Irish Republic. They have NCT's once the car is 4 years old, then each second year after that. It is also done at specific test centre's where they only do NCT tests. Trouble is that sometimes you have to travel for over an hour to reach a centre in some of the rural parts pf the country - and the waiting lists can be very long, sometimes you might have to wait a month or two to get an appointment.

Having said that the one advantage is there is no chance that they are looking for work, it makes no odd's to them if cars pass or fail.

Ok guys - here's the update......

Called the dealer today and booked the car in for 1st March for Free MOT, pre end of warranty checks, warranty work and also for a basic service.

Thoroughly check the car as its coming to the end of its extended warranty 27th March 2011 and advise / complate any work as necessary.
Part of this may include the o/s/f & n/s/f anti roll bar bushes but we'll see on that one?

The drivers window will go down from the switch but NOT go back up. It will still operate from the keyfob and "global close" feature so that would suggest a switch fault I guess?

Poor start issues again - on turning the key to the ON position there is a 1-2 second delay before any cranking occurs, then it lazily starts to crank and usually catches, but it seems like a lottery whether it will or won't catch sometimes!

Rear light clusters - have condensation again. As some of you may know I'm on my 6th set I think it is, all replaced under warranty. I have stated that I may look at removing them and drying them out myself, possibly running some clear silicone around the edges to try and seal them. It looks like they may do this for me as part of this warranty / service arrangement, so we'll wait n see what happens on this.

Free dealer MOT to renew its certificate that runs out on 28th Mrch 2011

Service - The car was serviced in July 2010 at approx 72k miles and isn't required at present.

I have however asked for a price to complete an oil change, oil filter, fuel filter and air filter change although early at 80k miles to freshen things up and been quoted approx £120 so I told them to complete this as well.

I mentioned about the paint corrosion on the drivers door sill area where they offered a £200 goodwill payment towards this. I explained that business is at an all time low and money's tight at present and wondered how long the offer was good for. They said that it was good for as long as necessary, obviously within reason, so I'll have to hold off on that just now!

Courtesy car all booked and good to go.

Sounds fairly positive at the moment so we'll have to see how it ends up.

I will of course come back and post the result

    Thanks for reading

    Jim

Interesting post Jim, thanks. I'm in a similar position - my A3 1.6FSI is out of extended warranty in April, due MOT at the same time. I'll be having a couple of things checked out when I take it in for MOT.

I had been wondering about the service though, it was serviced last April at 16.5k miles and by April that will be up to 29k-ish.

The DIS is telling me it doesn't need a service for a few thousand miles/months (can't remember the exact numbers) but I get a bit nervous about whether it's good for the car to let it go that long. I might do the same as you though and ask for the vitals such as oil change etc to be done. Sounds like it's worth doing for £120.
