    Hi Guys

    I need your help/advice....

A few weeks ago the MFC on our 2006 2.0 TDI sport started resetting itself every time the car was parked up for more then a few hours. This I could live with but on Saturday I was travelling down the M40 in the rain when the wipers stopped working and the indicators had packed up too I pulled over to check fuses nothing wrong there, luckily I was travelling in convoy so my mate stayed behind me so I could get to the services. The RAC came out the wipers and indicators started working again by the time they arrived. But then the ABS light was on!!! The RAC man checked the car over and plugged it in to his computer and checked it for faults it was saying something about an earthling fault but no where its going in to the garage next to work today but any ideas what might be wrong?

    Thanks

    Mark

Ps hope its not to ££££ as just made an offer on a leather interior!!

Hi mark does the car still start perfectly? it sounds like water had got in somewhere, ive had quite a few mk5's where water has got into the ECU and caused problems

Hi Phil yes (I hope this doesn't tempt fate) it starts fine. Since the problems on saturday the mfc appears to be remembering its data and now the alarm goes off when I lock it after I unlock and relock it its seems fine. The garage have had it all day and they think its the ABS Module which is then affecting other items either that or its the main 'wire thingy that carries all the data to the different modules.

I total gutted as I was due to collect a leather interior out of a gti this weekend for less then £700 but I've hjad to pull out of that becuase getting this sorted is more important but as they say things happen for a reason

you mean the can gateway, that is very easy to test, the test will show if can high or can low has a fault, when i first read this i thought of the bonnet catch but that wouldnt explain the indicators not working, i wouldnt have thought the ABS would play up the wipers tho, maybe wrong tho, did they code read your car? if you need more info on testing the canbus i will explain it as easy as poss and then explain how to test it if thats any help mate

They've done several readings the first one showed loads of errors mainly comms the main one being the abs fualt the garage did ask if it was raining when it happened as the it maybe water related. The RAC guy said about the bonnet catch I never knew about it I keep learning things about the golf

just a thought but when the fault codes are comms it can point to battery voltage, if there is a voltage fault that will turn off the non important things first to keep the car driving, by any chance did the airbag light come on?

Right the saga continiues the garage next door to work who lok after my Mini have had the car in taken the abs pump and module off and had it tested there is nothing wrong with it phew but it still doesn't help explain the issues the car has speaking to the garage they say theres a small chance that when they re fit the unit it may clear the abs and traction control lights but before the unit was sent away there were loads of communication faults too which the garage cleared but they came back again so confussed the other thing the garage mentioned about the cam wiring ring thingy that the might have a break in it would this be expensive?? Is it likely?? I'm lucky as I have been able to dirve the works Crafter bluemotion nice to dirve and the caddy too but I miss my golf and what it back after I spent most of last saturday cleaning it
