    Hi All,
I'm just after a bit of advise if possible please? My wife has driven to london and back from the midlands today and has started to notice what I think is a wheel bearing noise from our B8 A4 S-line 143. The car is a 58 plate with 34000 miles covered. Seems very low milage for a wheel bearing failure (the car has the 7 arm 19" wheels). does anyone have any experience of wheel bearing problems with this car. is it related to the wheel size? The noise is a droning sound that increases/decreases with wheel speed. The only other thing we have done recently (last week) is replace the front tyres (Pirelli P-zero Rosso) so not sure if this is related

    Any help greatly appreciated
    Thanks

My car sounded like a squadron of WW2 bombers with a pair of brand new Dunlops on the front, I changed to Winter tyres and the sound went away.

    I recon its your tyres.

Top marks to your wife for noticing a change, though

I had a droning noise from the driver's side which got worse at higher speeds. I initially thought it may have been the new tyres (Conti Sport Contact 3s) but dealer identified it as failed bearing and replacement wheel bearing solved the problem.

This happended to me at approx 35,000 miles. Sline standard 5 spoke alloys.

Update: The missus went to manchester today and said that the noise appears at about 20mph and disappears at about 65-70mph

I recently had a front wheel bearing changed on mine, at just 40k miles.

Now getting a similar tell tale noise from the rear, sounds like another is going.

My wife was cruising up the A1 one day and found the car would not pull top gear, so changed down and carried on....... it was only when she saw the blue smoke from the now destroyed rear tyre that she realised something was wrong!

Fortunately a passing traffic cop changed the wheel

If you have had the same tyres on the rear since new it could be the problem.

I had same issue on my last B7 and was convinced it was a bearing, even argued with two dealers because they said bearings were fine and it was tyres.

Took the car to my local tyre guy and he agreed........anyway after two new tyres and lots of pie full of humble the problem was solved.

..........I have had a noise with this one.....but thats another story and will explain WHEN I eventually get my car back....

Bumping this as I have the same problem, very noticible droning noise increasing with speed. This has come on in the last week. I am about 2k miles into replacement front tyres (pirelli P Zeros).

The only other symptom is that the noise is louder when turning either left or right.

    2008 B8 143TD with 72k miles on clock.
