    Hi all,

I need a replacement exhaust heatshield (the one that runs along the underside of the car). Not sure the best place to get such a thing? Any tips gratefully received!

    Golf Mk3 1.8 (8v) GL, 1994 ish.

    Cheers guys.

Try a scrapper for heat shields or failing that you can buy stick on reflective foil (got some off ebay) if you're worried ...

I wouldn't bother unless the part of the heat shield you need is over the cat or protects the fuel tank from exhaust pipe.

My third stage shield (mid part), rattled like crazy (clips had rusted and some numpty mech had hammered the little posts flat ~ so it was impossible to just clip it back on), so I removed it and everything's fine (just keep moving) ...

Actually I am looking for those little circular springy clips that vw uses to secure the shield and other stuff like the air deflectors/shields on the underside of the car (I will attach a pic of what I mean). I can't seem to find any anywhere (not even ebay) !

If anyone has got 10 or so lying around, I would like to buy them

    cheers

    Matt

I used these small clips which are like a small rectangular piece of metal folded over on itself with a hole in it, these worked fine on the stubs protruding from the body when my heat shield came adrift.

    a bit like this:

Cheers guys. I'm going to rip the bloody thing off and be done with it. At the moment our car sounds like one of those 'Just Married' affairs with a string of tin cans dragging along behind. Which does have its own humour of course..

These circular clips are available from VW (or Skoda) dealers and r very cheap - bout 16p each incl VAT. The hard part is getting under the car without a ramp or axle stands! However the m/cycle clips above seem more upto the job - if relatively expensive in comparision,,,,,,,
