I know you're all really jealous of the impeccable roads we have here in Newcastle-under-Lyme, but just to rub it in, here's evidence of just how good they are. The pics below were taken yesterday on the A34 south carriageway, about half a mile before Newcastle town centre (just by our big shiny new Sainsburys).

The pics and the title tell the whole story...

I haven't quite stopped sobbing yet.

Oh dear Mark thats not good there's alot of potholes that popped up (down rather) after that bad weather and the grit/salt destroyed the road.

Did it damage the rim in anyway? I know the tyres aren't cheap but a replacement rim is just unbearable to think about.

Get your ruler or tape measure and get a complaint made to the council asap. There's also a website for reporting potholes. I'll have a look.

    Hope you get it sorted

    Chris

Edit - On the lighter note, what you need is one of these.

Thanks Chris! I had a good look at the wheel, and it seems (thankfully) to have survived intact. The tyre has been replaced, and the wheel is now back on the car. I intend to send my pics to the council - that hole definitely needs filling before more damage is caused!

Thanks for the sticker suggestion on eBay - it made me laugh, and I'm now very tempted!

No problem. If I were you and maybe in a more serious case, I would get the tracking checked incase the pothole has knocked something off its alignment or damaged something within the suspension.

I think this is the website I was talking about - Here

Theres even an iPhone app to report them at the roadside

I am going to keep a close eye on the steering and general handling of the car over the next few days. If I even remotely suspect any change, I will get the car booked into the dealers for an alignment check.

I already logged the hole, both on potholes.co.uk and on the Staffordshire County Council website. I will pass the details on to the leasing company tomorrow to see if they want to take matters further with the council over the replacement tyre.

    Cheers!

Was the hole greater than 40 mm deep. That is the criteria all LA's now use. If it is less then they will reject your claim. It used to be 1". Mind you back then Wagon Wheel were bigger, and I mean the chocolate coated ones. Regards Peter

I suspect the inside rim may not be round any more. You need to have it check and may be hydraulically jacked out if it is minor. Regards Peter

I thought all le mans were quattro? So naturally thought you'd have to stump up for 2 or 4! (pretty sure it's the tyre each side of the axle if it's a quattro?)

Anyway bad luck, we have got 3rd world roads almost with the damage last year that went unrepaired plus another bad winter this year.

There are potholes like that on the M62!!
