Inlet manifold

Gents my wife's car golf mk V 1.6 FSI auto petrol (not DSG). Engine management light on all the time. After engine is warmed up (only five minutes hot climate in Singapore) when you slow down and braking below 15-20 mph gearbox snatches/judder.

Dealer here is VW themselves, German technician who drove car around block then plugged in his laptop said definately not the GEARBOX something to do with the inlet manifold. Dealer said have to pay 350 GBP for a full diagnostic check, as they would have fit new coils etc for the check, which I find a rip off.

Now I believe the inlet manifold motor and/or flaps is a common problem, being quite a compedent person was going to have a go myself. Any suggestions on what would be likely cause i.e, 1)Inlet manifold motor, 2) Inlet flaps and what would be the best way forward to check and how difficult.

What was the fault code?

Unfortunately I only got a glance at his laptop and couldnt make a mental note of the codes and he didnt speak enough English to explain everything apart from mention inlet manifold and flaps etc.
