ive ust changed the temp sender and coolant flange due to them being faulty, drove the care around yesterday and the temp stayed at 90degrees, today i check the level and topped it up with coolant, i went out again in it and it stayed at 90degrees for 10mins and then it rose again but the fans didnt come on,
were is the temp switch for the fans on a 98 1.8t?

and any ideas why the temps rising again?

If bottom hose is colder than the top sounds like the rad could be blocked. It's worth taking it out and seeing what happens when you pass water through it. If it drips out you know it's blocked, if it pours out then it could be the pump. New rad shouldn't be too much, from GSF or something I wouldn't imagine much more than 70/80 quid. Pump is probably similar price.

    Hi jases,

I had a very similar problem when i bought my 1998 1.6, I have to replace Waterpump (did alternator and cam belts at the same time, tensioner included in cambelt kit, and this fixed the problem, but then I had to replace the thermo because it wouldn't go over 65/70 degrees, it cost me £30 + VAT for the cam belt, £20 + VAT for the Water pump and £18 +VAT for the altenator belt, and my fans didnt come on either until all the work had been done, are you getting hot air out of your fans?

Labour cost me £70 but that was family rates at the Skoda garage where my dad works, send me a message if you need it sorting, i'll see what I can do

Isn't the bottom hose supposed to be less hot than the top hose - that means the radiator is doing its job by cooling the water down. Unless you mean it's cold, in which case it might be blocked.
