    Ok,

on the hunt for a new Passat after my other died after kissing a lampost!

Had a high spec Sport before, but am now also considering SEL's, which appear to have a higher spec but with some differences?

So the differences that I've noticed are

    170 engine in SEL
    Half leather SEL
    Most SEL's have mf wheel
Chrome roof raail and boot plates on sel
    No fogs on sel
    No tints on sel
    16" wheels on sel
    SEL has chrome grill

What else? And anyone on here have experience of the SEL and 170bhp, I realise that some SEL's seem to be in sport spec but not many, however I'm in no rush!

I'd miss the tints but for a couple of hundred quid could get them done.

So talk to me and guide me along, I hate looking for cars its always such a minefield!

    Thanks

SEL also has heated front seats, early model SEL had cruise as standard, later ones didn't (I think I'm right here). MFSW was an option on both Sport and SEL, plus later model SEL had touch screen RCD510 with 6 CD changer as standard, early ones had RCD500 with dash mounted 6 CD autochanger.

The SEL had the option to have the Sport pack fitted when new, Monte Carlo five spoke alloys, lowered suspension, front fogs, rear tints, hence several look similar to the Sport, but with the chrome grill then being the only external difference - apart from the red I on the TDI boot badge being the only other exterior difference.

I'm fairly sure this is correct, others may have greater knowledge than myself.

Personally I prefer the Sport model as it looks the best in the range, although if you like tinkering you could have it all as ToMBoy has done.

My first B6 was a new 2005 Sport 140 TDI with MFSW, bluetooth, 6 CD changer, cruise, now have 2010 Highline Plus which I really don't like at all due to the seats. I have no experience of the 170 engine myself. Some people say the PD model was nicer in 140 format, as the power delivery was far smoother, but I hear the newer CR's are better whether 140 or 170. See if you can have a test drive in one, that's the best way to tell if you'll like it or not.

I have a late 2007 SEL 170 DSG with Sports Pack (and a bunch of other extras). It's great. Power is very good although it can be a little fierce in the delivery (all or nothing). Fuel economy is ok - over 40 on a long run sticking to 70 (ish). Can be as much as 48 depending on the traffic etc. Also I think the DPF regeneration which takes place periodically can cause an increase in MPG.

    James.

I have an `07 plate 170 SEL and am happy with it. Performance is great & comfort is fine but that is all subjective. DPF's are always present on the SEL. Not sure about the injectors being different. I didnt think they were. Martin1810 will know. Anyway, are you looking for a brand new one or a `new to you` one. I ask as I have the 2007 passat spec in pdf format showing the options differences at that time, if you, or anyone else come to that is interested.
