coil light flashing, power stuttering & not starting

Hi all,

Was driving home the other day (round 60mph) when engine began to stutter and shake a bit. Yellow coil light came on and started flashing so i pulled into hard shoulder where car cut out all together. After a couple of minutes of effing and blinding I tried starting car again and it started 1st time and ran grand.

The following morning when i tried to start the car it wouldnt start. Turned over ok but wouldnt start. I'm thinking fuel delivery problem but really clueless on cars so only guessing. Anyway after a few more goes car started and has been ok for a couple of days.

I called in with my mechanic today and without looking at car he reckons its an injector problem. I asked if it could be fuel filter but he said "your lucks not that good"! (cheeky sod)

Question is does this sound like the infamous piezo injector failure or could it be something else? If its the injector do I drive car until it totally gives in or fork out 4 one now and if so where is cheapest place to source one or can I get a refurbished one (mechanic says he'll fit it for a couple of hrs labour).

I know injector probs have been posted here many times so sorry for starting new thread but all comments sugestions would be greatly appreciated.

For information car is 2007 170 sline se saloon with 69000 miles.

It could be an injector issue; the only way to find out is with a fault code read. Beware rebuilt injectors (even genuine Audi ones) I have known them fail just out of warranty.

Got engine code 04160. Basically intermittent injector voltage.
Nightmare! Thing is car still running grand so gonna wait till it becomes real problem which I understand can be anytime. Really like the car but not sure i'll keep it after this and my earlier prob https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/s...d.php?t=110397

Hi Havinabeer, did you resolve this problem? I had the same happen today driving along the A303. Car started stuttering and then died and on came the coil ight and it started flashing, no EML light. Coasted a short while and started it and started no probs ran fine and got me home 100miles away without issue! Popped it into the local garage next door, and he said it was a fault with injector 1 and it threw up a few more faults which were related to it. I explained i'd been through the injector failure before but last time the car died a few seconds after restarting. Before i hit the roof, I am wondering whether it is the wiring loom that is the problem this time.

Anyway, if you did resolve it, let us know.

Hi Adman,

sorry for the delay getting back to you. This did indeed turn out to be an injector issue but when changing the injector my mechanic also advised me to change the wiring loom.

Given the stories posted in the piezo injector sticky it would seem to be that the injector fault can occur in this way as well as an engine cut out with no dashboard lights. Sorry this isnt better news but maybe you should try and replace only the wiring loom and see how you get on without shelling out another small fortune on an injector.

Thanks for responding. I have now done over 400 miles since it konked out. I think I am going to look at chopping it in for something else - too much liability waiting to cost me big £££.

i have just had the same problem, driving along, coil light flashing and the car died, and now wont start at all. havent got a clue about engines. so im stuck really.
some help and advice would be much apreciated

Get a form in to VOSA.

Many people have done it and they are investigating, they are now waiting for audi to respond.

That’s a little premature as it could be another problem, unlikely given the symptoms but VOSA require evidence not just “coil light flashing and the car died”
