Hi, looks like my front discs need changing on my a3 1.9 tdi 130. is it a big job? have located a set of mintex discs and pads for £70. Does anyone know the part number or where I can get it from. Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi I bought my brakes bits from www.gsfcarparts.com but I haven't yet fitted them and have been told that the only way to unwind the calipers is to use a machine that only VW/Audi garages have. Is this true?

Only rears need a piston wind back tool. Not the fronts.
The brakes are easy, i did all of mine with no previous experience.

Sourced my rear discs and pads from GSF and the fronts off ebay, inlcuding pads. Total cost including piston wind back tool £170.

Thanks for the help, have not done brakes for a long time . They now have ABS and sensors and things!!! so thought it may be a little difficult, the manual says not. I believe that the minimum thickness is 19mm. Is this crucial as mine have quite a lip so I need to measure the thickness ASAP. The pads are fine and the braking is good, will the sensors let me know if the discs are shot?
Found some mintex discs and pads on fleabay total £60 which I thought was OK. Local garage man said approx £200 to supply and fit and another £45 to change brake fluid, so think I will do it myself. All help and advice is greatly appreciated.

1.9 TDI PD Audi A3 (131 BHP) Engine Code: AZS, 2001-2003

    Minimums
    Front Discs: 23mm
    Rear Discs: 7mm
Front Pads: 2mm (Excluding Backing plate & lining)
Rear Pads: 7mm (Including Backing plate & lining)

Yep think so you only need the tool for the rear discs.
