    Hi guys,

First post, so go easy on me...

I have a 2003 Audi A4 1.8t that developed a problem late last week. Having plugged in the scanner thingy, it brought up a code P0304, misfire in cylinder number 4 and was showing classic signs of an ignition coil failure - rough running, low level vibration, loss of power, etc. I took out all the ignition coils and moved them around, checked sparking, etc. etc. After a few tries at this, the car refused to start. Turned over, fuel going in, sparking no problem, just won't start. Anyway, long and short of it is that the problem was way out of my capabilities to solve.

I took it into an Audi specialist, where it still is. This is the 3rd day and my bill is racking up as they try and figure out what the problem is. Everytime I call, they haven't found the problem and my bill goes up even further.

Question 1: is it common for an misfire to cause an electrical problem, if so, what's likely?

Question 2: is it expected that after 8 hour labour, an audi specialist still hasn't found the problem.

It doesn't help that I have never found a garage that I can truly trust and this isn't helping me move to a more trusting relationship with a garage. I am tearing my hair out because what I thought might have been an immboliser reset, or an ECU reset or a sensor replacement followed by an ignition coil replacement seems to be far off what the problem is

    Any ideas/thoughts most welcome

    Help!!

    Cheers,
    Scotflyer

it does sound like a coil pack needs replacing. im no expert on the 1.8t but have read a number of these threads all the same. Is it possible that some of the other coil packs have become faulty when swapping them around as i believe when 1 goes the others arnt far behind.
did you run another fault scan once it wouldnt start?

Could very well be a vacuum/boost leak some where.
