    HI all,

I have a standard 2008 SE A6 Avant. I wanted to lower the car on SLine springs to keep it OEM, but I have a few questions:

    • There seem to be 2 types of sline spring, each with differing drops. Does anyone know more about this.
    • anyone know the part numbers/approx cost to get these supplied.
    • Can I still use the standard SE shocks (I am presuming yes)
    • Are there any suspension jobs that are worth doing (drop links etc ???) when changing over.

    thanks

As far as I am aware, the two variants are Sport and S line suspension. Sport is a 20mm drop and S line is 30mm. I think these are specific to facelift cars though - before the facelift you either had the standard SE setup or the 30mm drop S line.

The S line setup comes with different shocks to suit the shorter springs. I wouldn't like to say whether SE shock absorbers would suit the lowered springs - maybe someone else who's experimented can comment?

    Cheers!

    MF.

All I can tell you is that for the pre-facelift cars (mine is a 2007 SE) there is an "in-between" sports suspension option - I have it fitted to mine. Lower than than standard, not as low as S line.

Make sure you get the S line if you want the low look. Good luck.

Not 100%, but I am guessing you'd need to change the shocks too. I remember from my younger days in Golf GTi's that you would soon wear out standard dampers on sports spirings.
If the funds allow this then there is little extra labour involved, and at least everything would then 'match' and give you the benefit of having full refreshed suspension.

Thanks for all the help guys.

Has anyone got any real world experience of driving an A6 with the 30mm drop? i.e. scraping over speed humps etc?????

Having looked at this, there are 2 drops as per an earlier post. Sports suspension which is -20mm & SLine which is -30mm.

Curiously, slines come with Sports suspension with sline springs a no cost option. Having looked at the parts, standard shocks will be fine.

As my car has done 90k, I will probbaly change them all over at the same time as well as looking at a squeak form the rear control arms.

I have an S-line Avant which I have had for three months and not had any issues with speed humps or clearance. I once drove it fully loaded with soil to the local tip and it looked like there was no rear travel left but it still cleared (although this was in the back, I imagine the front would catch if it was that low!)

Both my previous and current A6s have the 30mm drop S line suspension, and I have not had any issues with either speed bumps or the new "pillows".

cool. I need to see if I go genuine audi or just get a fixed (non coilover) kit from Eibach/HR.

I think I will do the control arms at the saem point since it should be easier to do all this in one go.
