    A6 2.7 TDi Le Mans 57 plate :

There is an intermittent fault with the MMI in that it locks in mute mode.

This normally occurs from start up. Some times the pressing of numerous MMI buttons clears the fault; sometimes the only way to clear it is to restart the ignition.

I have tried rebooting the MMI, but this doesn't clear the fault.

The fault affects the radio/CD/Phone prep/Sat Nav guidance, basically anything that requires sound.

    Any ideas gratefully appreciated.

    Regards,

    Steve

Do you know what firmware version you are running? It may be worth upgrading to 5570 if you are having problems with an early version.

It's running the 4220 version. Why would this be a problem?

I've had numerous A6's previously ranging from 05-06 plates and never had this issue occur.

    Kind regards,

    Steve

All I'm saying is that the latest version of the firmware may have some stability fixes in that could solve your problem. I don't think it is very likely, but it is fairly cheap and easy to try before you get into anything more major.

I'm assuming you have a saloon rather than an estate and so you can't suffer from the notorious leaking wash-wipe problem...

    Okay, thanks for that.

It is a saloon, but I have experienced the rear wash wipe issue on an Avant previously.

you could try a hard re-set by disconnecting the car battery for 10mins.

Do you by any chance have an iPhone 4. I had this problem the odd time with the MMI 2G.

    Hi Steve,

There looks to be a number of us with the same problem at the minute. If you look at my thread

    https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/s...d.php?t=114286

You might be able to follow what the guys told me. Basically my two issues are not connected. I have a leak on my rear windscreen that I thought may have caused a MMI failure.

By using VCDS (VAG-COM) and help from A8 tech and Peter D I was able to determine my telephone controller is dead. I have one on order and will fit as soon as it comes, hopefully without too much trouble.

The failure I'm told may be down to the rear wash pipe splitting a joint that is close by. Will find out when I lift the carpets.

Hopefully, if I can I'll do a "How to" when I get to fit it.

Where are you based? I'm learning VCDS as I go but if you're not close you may be able to get someone on the forum to do you a scan.

    Cheers,

    AndyB
