Poor fuel consumption & loss of power

Hi Guys i am still new to this forum, i have a 99reg 1.9tdi A4.
Now doing 168000 miles, when i got the car at 156000 the fuel consumtion was excellent, i got 700 miles to a full tank but that slowly declined with poor pulling. I know that it'a high miles but i would really like to know what i could do to try and rectify this before going to a workshop.
Not sure what bhp on this too

I have removed the maf sensor and cleaned that already, not much difference to pulling and fuel usage, i am planing on checking all pipes leading to the turbo for blockages ( replaced camshaft cover gasket as that was leaking on 1 side of the block

Don't really want to miss anything out when doing the job so if there is a link on this problem from a previous post or any1 had a similar problem, anything would help, i use the car for work and only really have weekends(weather permitting)

Just would like to know were to start and finish

First place to start would be a fault code scan I would think.

That helps me out alot, i will have a look and have a go with it, hopefully i get to the bottom of it all, don't really want to go to a workshop as the costs are high and my car has a few things need looking at,
