    Hi All,

I've got a 2002 A6 2.5TDI Avant with serious Power Steering problems. This started with a noisy whine and has quickly developed into a serious crunching sound and now failure of the PS.

The fluid reservoir is full, however the fluid is full of bubbles. There doesn't appear to be any fluid puddles on the ground where the car has been standing, but I haven't got underneath it yet.

Can anyone suggest if this is likely to be pump related and any steps I should take before changing it?

    Thanks in advance!

    Rob

Looks like someone used the wrong power steering fluid and thus killing the pump. Its not a difficult job but the car needs to be put in the service position and the auxiliary beln needs to be removed in order to get to the belt, allong with the plastic cover and the viscous fan. The pumps are available exchange from GSF or Euro Car Parts... Expect a 300+ quid bill regardless of who does the job !

Thanks for the reply. The fluid has never been topped up (as it didn't need it) and it's only been service by VAG dealers and one trusted specialist, so I hope the wrong fluid isn't to blame.

Looks like I'll be weighing up getting a mechanic to do it or me pulling the front off the car.

Is bleeding the system a problem or does it sort itself out after filling and turning lock to lock a few times?
