Hi we have a 2002 1.8T beetle. Over the past few weeks we have had a bad misfire when its cold but when it warmed up it seemed to run ok. over the past few days its got worse with the odd miss when it was under load.

Last we had a bad miss fire and engine checklight came on, we called the RAC who scanned and it came back with P0302 random misfire on cyl2. he cleared the fault and we went on.

Today the car wont got over 2k revs without a miss and the idle is everywhere.

I was thinking it was the coils so I stripped it down and looked at the sparks and coils. Coils looks look ok some had a bit of brown on them.

I found a pipe coming out the crank case had a big hole in

would this cause a misfire or could it be a mix of coil and this pipe?

Is there any guides on replacing it and is it expensive?

will the hole in the pipe not cause a misfire? If replacing the coils should I replace just one or all?

As for the BOV...thats my G/F prize possession

The hole in the pipe will cause a lean mixture, you should replace all four coil packs but failing that, replace the one that is logged as a misfire. If a BOV is that important, I pity you….I replaced my recirculating VAG diverter valve with one that makes a less chavy noise than the original.
