    Hi everyone.As an Audi a4 owner(currently b6 2.5 tdi quattro sport.Girlfriend owns b5 1.9tdi 182k)I recommended an a4 to my girlfriends Dad.He spent 9k on a lovly B7 2.0tdi a4 sport s line.(75k)full audi history.

Just been told that his engine is very ill needing £1000,s spending on it!!! due to this manufacturing/design shortfall with the BLB Engine.

I have owned several A4 Tdi,s.All high miles and very good cars.I was going to upgrade in the future to a B7 Tdi(having second thoughts). But also i feel a bit of a knob for recommending this vehice, and its gone pear shaped.

Please can anyone let me know if any Audi dealer has admitted liability,as i think this is a Disgrace.

My Wifes Audi a4 2.0.tdi blb (my old car) and the chain of the oil pump failed at 160k, so compared to your fathers weve been lucky i suppose. Currently in process of getting it repaired by an Indie garage. Having the conversion kit installed, new water pump, drive belts etc and its going to cost me around £2k with the dreaded 20% V.A.T.

I have read so many posts aboult this problem and obvoius fault, makes you mad just thinking about it.

I have a 2.0tdi A6 as well, but thankfully this one has the later converted engine.

    Best of luck.

i had the same issue but my bill was in excess of 3k, had some other parts replaced. Anyhow I wrote a letter of complaint to Audi and their response was:

    - If I had bought the Audi from an Authorised Audi dealer and had the repair done at an Audi Authorised dealer then they may have done sumthing as an act of goodwill - No doubt had I took the car to an Audi dealer, my bill would have been double!

They also denied any issues with this engine and said in response to my question that a kit had been brought out to fix the oil chain issue, that parts are modified all the time. There was nothing wrong with the BLB engine according to Audi

I will never buy another Audi again. I still have the car and intend on running it into the ground , need to get my moneys worth out of it!

    Audis attitude STINKS.

I'm not too impressed with Audi's attitude about this BLB engine disaster either.

Mines went at 135,000 and cost me a mere £800 to fix with timing belt/water pump done too, BUT regardless its disgraceful that they dont view it as a common problem!

No longer will i be buying VAG i think. A Mercedes or BMW next.

Is the BLB engine just the 2005 model?

another question, where is the engine code marked on the car?

My car shopping begins beginning of March so thought id best ask, are there any other engine codes to be wary of or was BLB just the major culprit?

Take a look at the Sticky second from the top of main page re-BLB engine - "Oil pump chain smashed the..................." That'll enlighten you, but it won't make you feel better. It's a bloody disgrace and Audi don't give a stuff.
BTW, it's not exclusive to BLB, there are many other codes. You'll find these in the same Sticky.
