    Hi,
I need assistance in both where i can get parts really cheap and how to do things.

1st, i need to get exhust componants, as i have just changed my turbo as the oil seals had blown and it must have put oil down the exhust system because its still smoking and i need to put it through an MOT and as it is it will fail its emmisions test, so i am either needing some ideas on how to sort this or where i can get the middle box and rear box for my A6 1998 1.8 T SE. petrol.

I also need the clocks for the same car as the little computer in the middle has stopped displaying it lights up but no information... so i either need some ideas or i need to replace it any ideas??

2nd, I need to get the door cards off and dont want to go jumping in there and breaking it. Im used to getting door cards off by a few screws but with a look i couldnt see any so how do i get them off please.

Anyone who has ideas, please take a few minutes to send me a reply as i really miss my car, i am driving the wifes megane and not loving it, i want my car back so any help would be great.

    Thanks again........

The oil in the exhaust should burn off with a couple of hours of running hot - go for a long drive. If you really must replace it, the usual exhaust places should be able to help, or if you want to DIY, get the parts from GSF or Euro car parts.

To fix the DIS (centre of the dash), I think there's a how-to on here somewhere, or you could send it off to bbareman.

The door cards are held on by 2 screws at the top of the door trim (one at the front, one at the back) remove these, then lift the trim straight up to disengage the hooks holding it to the door (do not lever it like a lot of cars - that'll break the hooks). The manual says to poke a screwdriver through a hole under the electric window switch to unclip the electrical plug, but I'd have thought you could reach that from behind once you've lifted the panel away. (you poke a screwdriver into the hole, then push the tab towards the rear of the car to pop the switch upwards). You then need to disengage the bowden cable from the handle.

(that was a lot of instruction, but they come off quite easily - just remember to lift not lever.

The rear ones are the same method as the fronts

NickPicks is right about burning the oil-vapour off, the only thing
i can add is to get the rpm up to 4k+ to help save your cat,
it could be dead or dying.

    Regards

    Hi guys,

Thank you for your replies, i found the screws to get the door cards off which look simple enough, i must have been looking with my eyes closed becuase they are obvious.... !

As for the oil, i can imagine there would be much oil in there as i didnt really runt the car once the turbo seals went only to tow it a few miles to my sister in laws garage, so i had the power steering so there shouldnt be much. fingers crossed, however it does concern me about the cat. could i have done alot of damage to that with such little usage of the car ??

I hope not as it looks a pain in the rear to get to it!

    Thanks again guys

For improved emmissions try Cataclean. It will bring your emmissions down by cleaning the turbo, catalyst and anything that gets in its way.

Should be about £14 from ebay. Follow the instructions carefully. Smells like nail varnish remover. Not that I use it! I found out about this product from articles in Car Mechanics Magazine and this is the only product that they have tested and admired. Cataclean make no claims about increased power or cetane rating, fuel consumption or anything else other than cleaning the catalyst.
I use it before an MOT and just to keep the system clean.

Before you replace it, check that it hasn't been turned off: a quick press of the 'reset' button underneath the right hand stalk turns this display off (and on again).

    Hi,
Yeah i checked the reset button when i found that the screen stopped working. It lights up when the dash comes to life but displays nothing, no information is displayed, so i am guessing it is FUBAR ed!

I will look into getting some of that catclean then, i will look for another seller as it seems the one i have found is a tad over priced, but if you believe it to work well i will take your word and get me some

If it means saving me a huge payout for a cat replacment and the effort of putting it in, its got to be worth a try at the very least.

    thank you for your post.
