    Dear All

I purchased a new A6 3.0 TDI Le Mans Avant in March 2010, so the car is less than a year old and has done only 8000 miles and the service display states the car will need a service in 56 days or 700 miles!
My business partner bought the exact same car at the same time but the 2.0 version and he he done over 17000 miles and he still has had no service warning!
I am not a heavy-footed driver so why do I need my car serviced and he doesn't?
Is the 3.0 engine more demanding on oil/parts/service etc.?
Can I expect only 9000 miles between services or does the service interval warning go on some sort of calendar?
Is the first service just an oil change?
Sorry for all the questions but I have previously owned Mercedes and am used to 15000 miles between services at least.
The car is brilliant and still goes like a rocket (maybe I am a bit heavy footed!). No signs that it needs a service apart from the display warning.
    Any info gratefully appreciated

    Regards

    Mark

    Hi Mark,

If your car has the same system as mine and is not on a variable service but a fixed interval and you have two choices.

For my car the Standard Service interval is either 1 year or 10,000 miles or you can have (as I have, & I suspect your partner has also) the Longlife Service Interval which is 2 years or 20,000 miles. You get to choose - if you go Longlife, simply put they use a higher spec oil and change more of the parts at the service.

It should tell you in your Service History book which one you're on.

BTW: Get your partner to look at the Service Interval reading on his MMI by pressing CAR and scrolling down.

    Cheers,

    AndyB

The service interval is influenced by type and length of journeys, what the engine temperature reached and for how long and the demands you place on the car. All these, and a few others, influence the service interval, like long motorway journeys only reduce the interval by a small amount, where the school run is a killer. Regards Peter

I normally get about 11k - 13k miles between services which is fine by me. TBH I wouldn't like to go much longer between services, I plan on keeping mine a long time.

A friend has a mk5 GTi Golf that was on variable servicing when he first bought it as an ex demo, about 3 months old and that started requesting a service every 8k - 9k miles, turned out that the computer needed to be reset as it was requesting it's servicing too soon.

Wow- thanks for the quick response Andy B and Peter D. That all makes a lot of sense. It would seem wise then to leave my low- miler car on the annual service indicator and for my higher mileage business partner to keep his on the other tariff.
Would you agree with this strategy or are there disadvantages?
    Regards

OK, so my A6 3.0 TDI is almost 1 year old and had had its first service at just over 9000 miles and it seems that the oil was replaced and some pollen filters.
The bill from Oxford Audi is £ 430.00!
If that is for a basic oil change I am getting concerned how much the first major service is likely to cost!
I asked the technician regarding different oils depending on how the service intervals of the car were set up as previously posted and he said they have one type of oil only that goes into all A6s and they don't use a higher spec oil for the Longlife service interval.
Any comments would be appreciated- I feel a letter to Oxford Audi coming on!

    Regards

    Mark

    Dear All

Just wondering if anyone can recommend an Audi dealer or approved specialist in the Oxford area.
Oxford Audi charging £430.00 for the car's (2010 A6 3.0 TDI) first oil change after 8000 miles fills me with trepidation on how much a major service would cost!
Is this what everyone else expects an oil service to cost?

    Regards

    Mark

£430 to change the oil?? That's complete lunacy!! I have no issues with high dealer prices to cover the cost of all the kit etc but that's just taking the biscuit.

You sure that's right? It can't be?

It's maybe for a minor service? I thought an oil change was around £100?
