    Hi all,

First and foremost thanks to everyone - I've been reading this site with interest and have been amazed at how helpful everyone is.

On to my news - I've ordered my first Audi!

As it is a private purchase I had to be careful with the costs and ended up ordering:

A4 Avant Technik quattro 170 tdi manual with lighting pack, bootliner, HDD Satnav upgrade. Really toyed with getting the s line but the technik proved too much of a draw - with both parking sensors, DVD satnav (which meant less than £500 to updragr to HDD) plus full leather - all for only £900 extra.

My next dilemma was whether to drop down to the fwd version and buy the led lights but I decided to go with quattro instead!

I'm sure others will think differently but as as we all know it is a personal choice!

Oh and it'll be in brilliant red!

Am coming from a skoda Fabia 1.2 and have waited 4.5 yrs (missus wanted to spend the money on silly things like the mortgage! ) So do I win the longest/biggest upgrade award!

Now all I have to do is wait - ordered 3 weeks ago, expected but not guaranteed delivery 1st week in May - we'll see!

Congrats- that is some upgrade from the fabia!

All I can say is don't drive a car with bi-xenons now like I did the other day because you realise what you are missing out on on a far superior night drive, they really are as much function as style

Good choices with the light pack and HDD sat nav- is that the kit with the controls down near the gear stick?

    2004 A4 Avant S-Line 1.8T 190ps Avus Silver w/black optics
1997 MK3 Golf GTI 16v Anniversary Diamond Black- now gone!

All Satnav have the MMI controls down below.

J_B204 - congrats. You'll enjoy that for sure! I had a Brilliant Red car last time so we fancied a change but they do look stunning.

I like the way you maximised your benefits (i.e. the discounted options). That's exactly what I did. The S-line Executive came with part leather and part alcantara so the upgrade to full leather only cost £287+VAT. I did a similar thing with the Satnav as part of a bundle. If you're not careful then sometimes omitting an option means you miss out on a pack and it costs more.

MY2010 A4 Avant 2.0 TFSI quattro S-line Exec - Aruba Blue, 19" alloys, Full Leather, B & O, 3G Tech Pack, Adaptive Lights, Dynamic Susp, Folding Mirrors, Power tailgate, Storage/Light Packs, Parking Plus, Heated Seats, Rear Blinds, Load Rails, Privacy Glass, Rear Airbags, TPMS, Load Liner

    Gone : 09 A4 Avant, B6 S4, TT, Golf GTi...and the rest are embarassing!

Congrats! It's a great feeling isnt it! especially when you get to customise the car exactly how you want. Its my first audi purchase new as well...

Red really does stand out, its gonna look awesome. Out of curiosity, did you choose the lighting pack yourself? When I ordered mine it was "strongly recommended", and the dealer pushed for me to get it. (its a good idea..I was just curious to see if they had pushed for you to get it as well).

Stick with the quattro, you just cant beat the grip. 170bhp is very powerful for a front wheel drive imho...so makes sense.

Will be interesting to see who gets theirs first!

Kodkod - I'll be sure not to drive one! Was soooo tempted but was already under pressure from the other half to just get the 143 Technik so I consider getting the 170 quattro a win for mankind

Scotty uk - I agree on the upgrades - had poured over brochures for literally years and done a heck of a lot of research so, with the exception of getting the bi xenons think it was the best choice for value for money (although that argument falls down a little with getting the 170 quattro vs the 143!

Theskyfox - I was pretty sure what options I wanted and, to be honest, knew more about them than any of the dealers I went to!

" I was pretty sure what options I wanted and, to be honest, knew more about them than any of the dealers I went to!"

So true. Mine knew a lot about the car, but failed to mention anything about the DPF and wasn't aware that the car was equipped with Ad-blue. Granted that both systems can work just fine without the user ever being aware of them, the DPF I would have thought would have been well worth mentioning. I've spent the last year doing my homework on the car, so probably know more then the salesman lol...

The other one I found amusing was that he mentioned the tyres were expensive and would need replacing after a few years (A salesman way of saying change your car every 3 years), not realising that I'll probably shred them in 6 months the way I drive :P.

    Her "No, No ...."

theskyfox - well I'd thought I'd done my research well but hadn't come across ad-blue! I have now though - if I'm right it only comes on the 3.0TDI engines?

spellsinger - quite right - I'd have gone mad with the options list.

Originally looked at an A5 sportback but in the end the extra practicalilty (2 kids) and the avant won over - I was very impressed with the size of the boot on the A5 though, although why oh why don't they offer a 3 rear seat option?!?

Also, the A5 came with far less kit as standard - yes it came with leather but only 1-zone climate, no dimming rear mirror, no auto lights, no auto wipers - and you couldn't get the technik pack - still a gorgeous looking car though...maybe when the kids are older....and with the 3.0TDI quattro engine...

Mind you, think the other half would have a fit if I started talking about my next car before I've even taken delivery of this one!

    Just thought I'd update everyone.

Found out today that the dealer is 'waiting for it to land in the UK' - which is good news. Have asked them for a little bit more information but does anyone know how long it might take to be ready for collection - understand that customs can take anywhere between 2 days and 2 weeks. Dealer is still saying it is looking good for a delivery late April, we'll see...
