    Need help please.
    had a mk4 golf 1.4 Y plate for 4 months now.
Did a service on it myself 3.75 months ago, and forgot to put a brass washer on sump plug.
Car has been running fine, around 150 miles a week for 2 months, needed to top up with 1/4 a litre of oil.
My son had warmed up the car yesterday for half an hour, the car is pointed up a slight incline and parked sidewards on, so the front offside tyre (drivers side) is the highest point.
with the rear near side (passenger) tyre at the lowest point.
I looked this morning and there is around 2 litres of oil in the snow around left hand front tyre.

I have had the car up on axle stands and the only place there is a large amount of oil is from the top, including the two finger pull rings of the dipstick.
my question is, if the pressure in sump is too high would it force oil up the dipstick and out the top, this is the only place I can see where the oil has come from.
done a search on dipstick leaks and people are saying it will leak if cracked or loose, its not cracked and not loose, the oil appears to be coming from the very top of dipstick tube.
would running it half an hour push enough oil up the dipstick tube?
I have had a lamp out and mirror, taken off air box and checked all bore plugs and all around engine, no leak, just all around the dipstick tube
    so ...... any idea's ?

update:I took off the oil separator, I have had to take drastic measures, there was that much gunk inside, I have put boiler on red hot and run red hot and also boiling hot water from kettle through the oil separator, seriously I must have got a mug full of gunk out. (no exaggeration)
I have filled it back up with carb cleaner and its running clear now, when I shake it, I can hear the mesh inside rattling, rather then slopping about now.
Also always had a problem since bought the car, around 1800 - 2200 revs there is a hesitance, just gona put it back together and see if it has cured that?
    maybe .... maybe not
The car has been used on lots of short journeys, around 10 miles to work, left for 8 hours, then back home 10 miles.
also lots of daughter/son taxi work to friends houses !

Firstly you should always replace a Golf 4 sump bung (they come with a new seal) as a stripped ally sump thread could really ruin your day, the torque is 30Nm.

If the pressure in the sump is excessive enough to blow oil out of the dip stick (assuming the oil level is not excessive) that says that either the ventilation breather or hose is restricted or the engine is excessively breathing past the rings.

Blocked breathers are very common on this engine and rather than clean it out you could have bought a new one (VW part number 036 103 464 G) but they are pricey at around £50.

    Hi
Had exactly the same problem last year when the weather was -15.
Started the car and left her to warm up, returned about 10 mins later and there was about 1 1/2 pints of oil which seemed to be coming from behind the drivers front tyre. It turned out that the oil that came out the dipstick and found it's way to ground behind said drivers front tyre.
Took it to my mechanic who diagnosed a blocked oil seperator/breather. The part was on back order from VW Belfast as so many people were ordering them. Anyway £55 fitted and problem solved. No problems this year and hopefully for a long time to come.
    Good luck !
