Hi Guys, I am thinking of changing my car for a relaible Diesel Estate. I currently have a 06 Saab 9-3 TD and I am looking at a Passat TDI DSG Sport Estate. I have about £5500 - £6000 and this will buy me something with about 100k and 5 years old,I don't worry about cars with mileage, provided they have FSH. Are there any known problems with the model I am thinking of,or would a manual 6 speed be a better option???

    Thanks in advance guys
    Cheers
    John

Injectors are a favourite on them. I have a 56 plate 140 sport estate, just had 2 injectors fail at a cost of 1600 quid.

Have a search for this subject, I'm sure you will find plenty.

Having said that it is a fantastic car to drive with acres of space inside

I bought mine with full VW service history 3 years old with 115k. In 18 months I spent 3k on repairs. Service history means nothing.

Avoid an older DSG box. If they go wrong there expensive too.

But, find a good one and you will love it. Even after the bother of the first B6 I had, it didn't stop me buying a second. There a fantastic car

I had an 06 Passat Sport DSG Estate, did 130k in that car, and yes great car, loads of space and a great mile muncher.

I did have it from new and serviced by VW. Mine never failed once, no troubles and never missed a beat! but I do know it had recall work done which will be stamped in the back of the service book. Worst thing I did letting it go.. Now have a 06 Sport saloon with 93k and all the toys fitted, lovely..

    Good luck

If you can, avoid the 2.0tdi up to 2008 and your fine. The 1.9 is a solid lump but not as nippy. A good remap will see around 140bhp. That would be my suggestion, although 1.9tdi sports aren't as easy to find as the 2.0.

Pretty sure the Sport was a 2.0 only, 1.9's are S and SE spec only.
