Passat Free Servicing

My daughter bought a new Passat Estate in September 2009 and thought she was offered free servicing for 3 years. When she had it serviced this week, by a different VW dealer, they denied any knowledge of this. She cannot find any of the original paperwork refering to this, although I seem to remember it being offered at the time.
I thought it would be available throughout the VW network, but does it only apply if you return to the supplying dealer?

Possibly , our local VW dealer is a franchise, and as such would expect them to offer extras solely in-house..

Is the original dealer close by where paperwork can be retrieved ?
I would have thought there maybe a seperate document regaarding this ?

VW had 3 years free servicing packages available the latest offered if you had VW interest free finance.
I have this and the 3 years free servicing is mentioned in the finance agreement.
