    Hi all
I'm going to upgrade to a 2.7t (from a 2.5 diesel) and want to upgrade it slightly with an exhaust, filter and chip. Would I be ok with an auto box or is the manual better?
    Thanks

If you have no specific reason for an automatic (my work
Commute is 50 miles and 95% motorway, which is why I went for one) then I would go for manual every time. Less stuff to go wrong for a start!

2.7T auto owner here - not remapped.

According to the stats, the tip box reduces the performance stats of the car. If you're looking for improved performance then the manual is the natural choice.

I've never driven a manual and I feel that big cars like the A6 deserve an autobox but that's a personal thing.

I remember reading that tip owners need to get the gearbox remapped if the engine is remapped, to handle the additional torque from the engine but I don't know any details about that. Best thing to do is contact a tuner with knowledge of the engines, there are plenty around thanks to the early S4 and RS4, although I think they all had manual boxes, so the autobox only appears on A6s and Allroads, so quite specialised knowledge.
