    Hi There,

Can anybody help me with a starting prob, or at least suggest some possible causes, I have recently had a new cam shaft and buckets e.c.t. fitted to my golf tdi 150, since it has come back from the garage, it doesnt alway start, It turns over fires then just dies, it may do this twice, then it will run, lumpy at first, then after a few seconds, settles down to tick over at about 9000 rpm, seems to be using more fuel too, and a bit low on power, maybe over fueling, Was fine before it went in,

It has been back to the garage twice now, but is still the same, They have told me they think the injectors are on there way out, but having spent 1400 quid on cam shaft belt e.c.t. Don't want to go shelling out more money, if its not going to cure the prob, I'm sure they would have run diagnostics,

I just want to know if there could be any other reason why its not right, Any help or suggestions anybody could give me would be much appriciated,

    Many Thanks

    Steve

It could be cam timing, a failed G40 hall sensor or even injector rocker arm set up, maybe as simple as a coolant temperature sender or as complex as failed injectors or even a worn head. As you seem to be getting nowhere with the garage who carried out the repairs, I suggest you start by going somewhere else, preferably a VW specialist or main dealer, and get a fault code read done plus some investigation into injector status readings and cylinder balances, basically to get a second opinion. Checking the cam timing will take about an hour and a half for an experienced mechanic with the correct tools and I must emphasise that it is important that they use the correct crank locking plate and cam locking pin. I have had many PD TDI’s do this after a cam belt change simply due to the garage doing the work using the Tipex and pray method which is not accurate enough. If the other garage finds that the cam timing is out, have them re-align it and if it cures the problem, present the first garage with the bill. As it has been returned to the original garage twice now, you are quite within your rights to do this.
