my leon has a problem, the glowplug light comes on, flashing (when the car is running), then it wont rev above 1200rpm, or respond to the throttle pedal. the throttle pedal/switch has been replaced as well as the ecu. this "cured" it for about a month and has now come back again, exactly the same! help!!!!!!!!

(1)Check that your brake all 3 lights are working first, if not replace the bulb(s)
    (2) if all lights are not working, check your fuse(s)
    (3) if still not working possible your brake pedal switch.
    (4) if all lights working, carry out diagnostic test, may still be the brake pedal switch.

Rac, checked the switch and it cleared the fault so pretty sure its to blame, but the garage that charged me over £420 to fit an ecu, and accelerator pedal, are arguing that the switch cannot be causing the fault! and are trying to charge me for the switch and fitting saying that this is another fault!, I am only allowing them to fit it as, as soon as its proven that its the switch i will speaking to trading standards about this. So has anyone any evidence that i can present to the garage to help them to do the right thing!

Which part number switch did you fit and when installing it, did you hold the brake pedal down and release it or did you just push the switch in. The operation of a new switch should be checked on a diagnostic computer in measuring blocks and the faulty switch code needs to be removed. I had a Leon in a few weeks before Christmas as the garage fixing it were at a loss. First of all I had to deal with a dirty throttle body but a few days later the light came back on. The car came back to me and it said faulty brake light switch and I was told this had been done a few days before. I said "that makes no difference, it is faulty". They fitted another and that failed as well. In desperation she paid us to fit a genuine one and it has been fine, they were fitting aftermarket pattern ones.

are pattern parts really getting to be that bad? Or certain suppliers in particular?

I will not touch many pattern parts, they have caused me too much embarrassment with customers and something making me look like a **** winds me up as I am perfectly capable of doing that myself without any help…

Thanks for all your replies, all the brake lights work all fuses ok, havent got the part number of the switch, but it was a genuine vw part, got the bag somewhere. and the garage fitted the switch, so hopefully they fitted it correctly!
The car has been fine for around 80 miles now, i ran it for ages, and disconnected and re connected the clutch and brake switches and disconnected the battery waited 10mins, then reconnected and its been fine.
The fault that comes up is "throttle position sensor", no other details at the moment, but "if" it comes back i will get it interogated properly to get the exact codes.

The brake lights may work but the switch is double pole double throw so the circuit that sends the signal to the brake lights and the ECU is working but the circuit that only sends a signal to the ECU may not be. The two switches must be seen by the ECU to operate simultaneously as part of the EPC safety strategy, if they do not work together, it will be registered as a fault and bring on both the EPC and engine malfunction lights. If you are getting a throttle position sensor code that is nothing to do with the brake light switch, what is the fault code number?
