Prob`ly just a duff glow plug. I had one go and replaced all four keeping the three good ones as spares.Paid about £60 from VW. Originally got some cheap from GSF that were the wrong voltage and all four went as soon as I turned the car on. Lesson learned, always go OE if cost allows. 2.0 Tdi involves a bit of dismantling to get at the plugs, not too difficult though. Dunno about the 1.9.

Ignore it. Clear the code and see if it comes back in a weeks time. This code does not mean you have a faulty glowplug. It simply means one plug failed the start up routine test once. It may well have been due to the battery voltage being a bit low.

just going to bump this, i have the same problem, firstly engine management came on with engine start up (no warnings or messages) went to garage, injector/glow plug loom replaced, month or so later same again, scan open curcuit cylinder 3 glow plug so this time all 4 glow plugs were replaced, two days later same again, scan said open circuit glow plug cylinder 3.
fault cleared and been ok for week or 2 now.

its going in to independant in a hour for further checks to see the route of the problem, did anyone have an outcome?

Have the garage been fitting the correct NGK glowplugs. If not the glowplug controller will fail.

I would ask the garage what "NGK9835" means. The correct glowplug for most 2.0 PD engines is NGK CZ304 (order No. 9864). BMP and BVD engines use NGK CZ104 (order No. 9826).
I don't know what a "NGK9835". Sounds like you may have the wrong glowplugs fitted and the controller won't like that. What engine code is your car.
