    Ok so it was more than originally thought. The alternator pulley was seized and the tensioner and pulley was also knackered so they have replaced thm along with a new belt at a total cost of £325 but its made a hell of a difference, even the steering which was a bit juddery when car was stationary is now smooth as silk. I suppose this is the price to pay for having an 11 year old car with 136k, but i hope it will do another 136k b4 it dies.

    Well.....my alternaor finally gave up on my 1.9tdi.....just for the record this happens at 432K...
