Can anyone recommend a good vag specialist in the North East? I will be needing water pump/thermostat/belts done in the not too distant future and as I don't have anywhere under cover to work, don't fancy doing it myself. Many thanks.

i can give you the one i use for mot / repairs to pass mot !
it's the garage i bought the car from,
i buy my oil from them,( take up a can and they fill it for me),
they have always been brilliant with us, and i will go there first when ,at the end of the year,
we are looking for a jetta / A4.
i can't speak more highly for them !
here is the link to their web page,
    http://www.sunnisidemotorco.co.uk/67/smc_about.htm
between chester-le-st, and consett, on the A693 as you come into Stanley,on the left, between
Ash motors, & the bus depot.
    SUNNISIDE MOTORS,
    regards,
    stewy.

Hi stewey. Thanks for the recommendation. Are they VAG specialists though? MOT work/servicing I can do myself but I'd rather leave it to a VAG specialist to do belts. I fear any non specialists will just use tip-ex etc.

you asked for vag specialist, i gave you vag specialist, although they sell that other german make,
give them a ring, they did my belt before i took delivery of my used bora, four years back,
i've had nothing but good service from them, but it's up to you,
    regards,
    stewy.

Sorry Stewey - of course. I misread your post to insinuate it was the garage you used for MOT work but not necessarily a VAG specialist. I'll get in touch with them tomorrow!

honestly, i don't think that you will be dissapointed,
they have never been anything but honest with me,very competitive pricing, and last november
they mot'd my car (2001 bora sport) for £39--no extras, no advisories (i had them done last year), and i got 5ltrs of quantum premium for £20--
    regards,
    stewy.

Thanks again for the recommendation guys. I rang round and emailed the above plus some others and settled on swift motor engineering. I've had a good chat with Barry Swift, the owner, and I've been extremely happy with his approach and knowledge, so when I pick up the a6, I'm going to have him do the tricky work! He came in at £602 all in for belts, six belt, tensioners, thermostat and waterpump which seems to be a good price. All genuine Audi parts so he's only charging around £250 labour.
