My 01 Golf GTI 1.8t, engine code ARZ, has a slight miss fire on idle and runs a little rough/jerky at lower revs. I had a scan done today with vag-com and it threw up a couple of faults.

One was the N80 Evap purge valve open circuit and the other was 00562 Oil level/temperature sensor. Was wondering if anybody could tell me would the N80 valve cause the rough idle and how can I test the valve?

Does the open circuit suggest that its a problem with the electrics to the valve rather than the valve itself?

The battery also seems o be quite low on charge, so I'll be replacing this. Would it cause a fault code to appear?

    All opinions/advice appreciatted.

The N80 can cause rough running if it is stuck open. This is the canister in front of the coolant bottle next to the washer bottle. Clamp the hose to the throttle body and see if this improves the running. If the N80 itself is stuck open it means buying a new canister but that fault code suggests a broken wire.

Thanks CRASHER. I was initially just going to replace the valve, but the open circuit code made me think electrical.

I'll have a go today at disconnecting and running it to see if makes a difference. I'll also have a look at the wiring to check for any breaks, although I think if the wiring was broken it would show a short circuit fault, not an opn circuit.

The battery does seem to be a bit low on power when starting (although has been for last 6 months and never not started), do you think this would cause/contribute to the problem?
