Well, it was broken down, so no real surprise.

First time its let me down in 2 years, but fortunately a decent green flag cover meant that it is now being delivered to my local independent garage...

I think one or more coils has gone, which although inconvenient, isn't a financial disaster. Think each one goes for around £25. However because the engine was running on 2 or 3 cylinders it sounded like a bag of nails.

One of those moments when you're glad you've got the breakdown cover. I'd not have wanted to drive 26 miles on a 2cyl engine!

Reliable up till now, hope this is just one of those things that happens every now and then. It was strange seeing it on the back of a tow truck!!

Your lucky its not a diesel mate with the dreaded injector fail. Mine broke down twice over xmas and both times it was a failed injector. Set me back £1600....gutted, but still love the car though !!

The VW coil packs are so flakey that the RAC carry a spare in their vans. My duaghter has had two, so far, at about £45-50 a pop.

Ford are dodgy too but they are one pack for all four cylinders so the price is a shocker.

agreed, i'm glad that each coil is separate, also relieved that the price isn't bankrupting. As with all things I can't tell if or when the next one will go, but the car is 6 years old this year. I'd sort of expect things like this to need replacing at that age...
