225/45/18 tyres on B7 A4?

Hi guys.

I've just bought a 2006 B7 A4 and I've been offered a set of 18 x 8 (ET47) wheels.

I would prefer to fit a set of 225/45/18 tyres as opposed the the more popular 225/40/18 due to the fact that they would be more comfortable to drive on and that there would be less chance of damaging a wheel when hitting bumps.

I know that this would be fairly marginal in terms of clearance however due to the fact that I have 45mm FK lowering springs fitted.

The car previously had 19" (ET35) wheels fitted and 235/35/19 tyres and they cleared ok.

If my calculations are correct, the 235/35/19 would have a diameter of 64.1cm whereas the 225/45/18 would be 65.97cm but is helped by the narrower width and the 12mm higher offset so they don't run as close to the arches.

Any advice much appreciated!

Just incase anyone is wondering - I went for the 225/45/18 tyres in the end and they fit really well.

No rubbing, fill the arches perfectly and most importantly - are great over the bumps!
