Disaster! After my accident with the a6, i had another one with the a8. What are the odds. Not happy.

    Pictures

Its still ongoing with insurance so dont want to discuss it yet. no one was hurt thank god.

I was going a bit tad than 30 on a motoway sliproad, and I'm wondering why the airbags didn't go off. It was quite a shunt into a braking car, and you can see the damage in the pictures. I suppose it wasn't too bad, and I survived without them. So I'm assuming a collision must be more severe than this for the airbags to go off right? or maybe faster speed? or more acceleration? or was there something wrong with the airbag controller / sensor?

Ok, thats all I really wanted to ask. Ok maybe one more thing. WHY ME! I really love this car and I really really don't want it to be written off. What are the chances? My old a6 was a total loss, you can see the pictures on here. But this looks repairable. I think the wing can be bashed back into shape, not too sure about the bonnet. New bumper obviously. the aircoolers look ok, but the rad is a write off, its leaking a bit of coolant, but no oil. engine seems ok. air con evap maybe. Are then any other rad's other than the ones I've mentioned? the a6 had a small one for the oil. I'm just trying to go through all the possibilities in my head. Its possible they may just cat D it, and if they sell it back at a reasonable price, i will prob repair it, but will need forum help! some of the parts are just sitting on ebay!

    Hopefully insurance will fix it!

Hope everyone had fantastic holidays! and merry new year!
(ps a8 rocks in the snow)

Sorry to see all that damage, hope they don't write it off, but ... this must be the perfect excuse to fit a new-style front end!

I was thinking about that, it might be an idea, anyway they have taken it today. When I drove it out of the garage the power steering was gone and the car sounded really sick.

Not true! My first audi was a 100 td. 250k miles when i sold it. Did the head gasket on it to. I love my audi's but alas, it wasn't to be with this one. It's confirmed, write off. Will be on copart soon.

Right people, looking for a8 up to say 17k. needs to have comfort seats, adaptive lights, memory seats, coming home lights, auto boot. 3.0 tdi (same specs as crashed a8). Would like radar cruise control.

thanks for the offer nathan. gonna have to pass.. I had an lpg range rover a while ago, the problem was always range....80% of my miles are sitting on the motorway, at the moment, I get around 650 miles per tank.

and I love my diesels! tdi is the way forward! The newer (05) model 3.0 have less co2 output as well, so I'm going to try and find one of those too. Finding one with the right spec is going to be tricky.

Side point... the repair company are saying that its 9k worth of damage... does that sound / look right?

Went to see the car today, pulleys were all bent, belt was chewed. the pipes connecting the intercoolers was jammed against the compressor belt. Water pump wouldn't turn. It was in a sorry state. Must have sustained all the damage when the rad hit the pulleys.
