I'm sorry if this has been covered previously.......

Im eventually getting a single DIN conversion with RNS-E done by OEM Retrofits and was just wondering:

    - Is there a latest map version?

    - Will my MFSW control any part of the the RNS-E unit? inc Radio etc?

    - Are there any known faults when using the red DIS when coded to display Nav route?

    Hope you lot can help,

    Cheers

Yes there is a 2010 map DVD available.

MFSW will control it, (track up/down. volume, radio station up/down etc)

the well documented 'red DIS bug', when Nav is active you need to turn the RNS-e off then on in order for the DIS to diplay Nav instructions (this is required even after VAGCOM coding)

    Cheers for the quick reply.

2010 map DVD- it's RNS-E MMI 2G i think (the one im getting fitted), this still ok?

I'll ask them about the disk.

Does any of the surround need to be changed on the dash? ie coin tray etc

It can't be "RNS-E MMI 2G", they are 2 totally seperate systems that use different DVD's. You need an RNS-E compatible DVD, an MMI DVD will be useless.

You just the double DIN cage and modified climate panel, nothing else trim wise needs replacing.

TMC is on all 2007 onwards Nav DVD's.

It just lists all 'current' traffic/roadwork/accident situations and will warn you of problems on your selected Navigation route (if selected). It's only as good as the information entered hence it's not always 100% accurate and upto date. As it's free it's better than nothing though.

Finally got RNS-E fitted last week.

    One word: WOW!!!

I should of got this fitted when i first got the car. Really finishes off the dash/centre instead of the concert system!!!

I know people out there have mixed reviews on the RNS-E but im well impressed.

Fitted by OEM Retrofits, Bradford. http://www.oemretrofits.co.uk/

Ammo & Aky take pride in what they do and I can throughly recommend.

cheers for all the help and advice on my concerns.

You can set the TMC to be auto which is what I use so then it does not matter where you are in the UK. Also you can setup pre recorded traffic info for times when you get in the car. So I have mine record from 7am and also from 5pm so i get the traffic before i set off. As said the info comes form the traffic master data around the UK and via the radio. You can use the right hand button on the steering wheel to get the audio on the routes if you have the audio off like i do. You can also get the directions info on the dash as well as the main screen. There are various setup modes for the map display as well. It has got me out of trouble on quite a few occasions. Enjoy!

They need the car for around 4-5 hours. Seems a little long but well worth it. Mine was the single DIN, so needed the double DIN conversion. I didnt mind the wait as i didnt have much on that day but there is only so much coffee you can drink in Costa.......

The Nav looks spot on. A proffessional job and considering the A/C unit has to be moved, the joints are seemless in my opinion. I'll try and stick some photos on later.

£600 they charged and they are quality blokes.

I enquired about the conversion at tcl satnav and he wanted £750, plus he was rude in his corespondance, so avoid! IMHO

    well recommended mate......
