!.9tdi Diesel Long Cranking when Hot

Golf 1.9tdi 105 bhp 55 plate 36k miles.

Recently after car has reached normal temp. it requires much longer Cranking before it fires.

When cold it starts first time.

Any ideas please.

mine is the same as yours (105) and is the same when it comes to starting, the problem you have is the starter motor, people will tell you its not but i assure you it is, basicly the starter isnt turning the engine over fast enough, my OH's 105 is a 57 plate and her starter crancks prob twice as fast as mine

before christmas i replaced the battery with a bosch one and it made a small defference (i only replaced it as i had a feeling it was about to give up)

oh and the good news a starter is £120 you can get them cheaper from a factor but thats the price of a bosch one from GSF

Are you saying that a replacement starter will Crank faster? is this a new part number? can you give details or point to a thread?

I found on another thread that MK5's should Crank at 280 rpm, how do I check this?

You dont need to use a different part numbered starter you just need to replace your starter with a brand new one, over time a starter motor gets worn out and thus lazy, i wouldnt know how to check how many cranks per minute, i know that mine cracks slower than my OH's and a few other 1.9 tdis i work on at work crack faster than mine, i would avoid fitting a second hand one as its a common problem so you could end up with one as bad as what you already have
