Hi all, I hae an LT 2.5, 5 cyl TDi. 40,000 miles.

It has recently developed a "tapping" noise which I can hear all the time.
It sounds like my old transported when the valve lifters needed replaceing, only not as bad.

    It sounds like only one of the lifters is tapping, so my question is;

    1) How long should a set of lifters last,

    2) Why is it only one that's tapping, oil feed prob??

    3) How easy is it to replace the lifters?

    4) Would an engine flush help, or make things worse?

    Any help appreciated, thanks.

    Robert.

PS: does anyone know where I can get a workshop manual for the LT 35 TDI ( 2003)?

Well i guess nobody knows **** all about LT's ( or TDI engines)on this forum, or nobody gives a ****, guess I'll go look for a forum who,s members actually know something about their vehicles and have the common courtesy to even reply to say they don't know.

    Unusual.

Most threads do get a reply and I can't see how both this and your tyre thread didn't. I think a lot of members use the 'new posts' function and I'd suggest they didn't get updated. An LT35 while not rare on the road is a rare vehicle to be discussed on a forum.

No matter, looks like your off anyway.

Go to the TDI Club forums, there is probably a wealth of info on there about it.

And if you change your mind, come back here as the resident LT35 expert.

Hi, Dont know whether TDI is different but I have similar tapping from 2.4D.
Vacuum pump is driven off camsahft. One of mine tapped from about 50k. Replaced pump (quite expensive) problem solved for another 200k.
As for manual you can subscribe to https://erwin.volkswagen.de Genuine workshop manuals are available for every model.
    Don't give up just yet.
    Regards
    John
